This Spanish speaking countries map quiz challenges you to locate all 21 places where Spanish is an official language — a list every Spanish class memorizes and every map quiz player should be able to click blind. Eighteen are in the Americas: Mexico, six Central American countries, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, and nine South American nations from Venezuela to Chile and Argentina. The remaining three are the ones that catch people out: Spain itself across the Atlantic, Equatorial Guinea on the west coast of Africa — the only Spanish-speaking country in Africa — and Puerto Rico, a US territory that still makes the classic 21 list. Notice that Brazil (Portuguese) and Belize (English) sit right in the middle of the map but are not targets. Click the named country to score; greens lock in, and two misses trigger an answer reveal. It is the standard companion quiz for Spanish 101 courses and a genuinely fun way to cement the list.

How to play

  1. The quiz names one of the 21 countries — find it and click it on the map.
  2. A correct click locks in green. A wrong click flashes red, and after two misses the quiz highlights the answer for you.
  3. You score a point for every first-try answer. Finish all 21, check your score, then replay — the order reshuffles every round.

Spanish-Speaking map quiz — FAQ

What are the 21 Spanish-speaking countries?
Spain, Equatorial Guinea, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay.
Why is Equatorial Guinea on the list?
It is the only country in Africa with Spanish as an official language — a legacy of Spanish colonial rule that ended in 1968. It is the answer most players miss.
Is Brazil a Spanish-speaking country?
No — Brazil speaks Portuguese. It appears on the quiz map as context (it borders nine of the targets) but clicking it is always a miss. Belize (English) is the other common false friend.
