50 Halloween Trivia Questions for Kids

This is a Halloween quiz you can hand to a room of children without pre-reading it first — no slasher films, no 1970s horror actors, no questions that need an adult to explain the reference. The 50 questions are split into three age bands (5-7, 8-10, 11-13) plus three themed rounds, so a party host can pick one band and run it straight down the page. Every answer is a single fact — a name, a number, a color — which means you can score it fast without arguing. The movie round sticks to G and PG titles kids have actually seen: Charlie Brown, Coraline, Monsters, Inc., Scooby-Doo. Children this age shout answers out together, so run this round with no scoring and no hands-up rule — the goal is that everyone gets one right. Halloween Trivia for Ages 11-13

By this age a quiz has to be winnable but not automatic, so this round leans on the history behind the holiday rather than on decorations. These are the questions that produce the "wait, really?" reaction — candy corn's original name reliably gets a laugh. If you are running mixed ages, use this band as a tiebreaker round rather than the main quiz.

The questions are about plot details rather than casting, which keeps them answerable for a kid who saw the film once. If your group skews younger, cut the release-year question and keep the rest.

Spooky Animal Trivia: Bats, Spiders and Owls

Halloween animals have a reputation problem, and this round is the fastest way to fix it — only three of the world's bat species drink blood, and none of them live anywhere near North American trick-or-treaters. These double as science-lesson questions, which is why scout leaders and teachers tend to use this round on its own. Collective nouns at the end are the easiest questions to remember and the hardest to guess.

Halloween Candy and Pumpkin Trivia

Run this round while the candy is being handed out and it doubles as a distraction during the messiest ten minutes of the party. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pick the right age band for a mixed group?

Pick the band for your youngest child, not your average child. An eight-year-old will still enjoy the 5-7 round because they get every answer right, whereas a six-year-old in the 8-10 round scores nothing and stops playing. For a genuinely wide age range, run the 5-7 round for everyone and use the 11-13 round only as a tiebreaker for the older kids.

Are any of these questions scary for young children?

No. Nothing on this page references a horror film, a real death or anything gory. The scariest items are Stingy Jack in the 11-13 band, which is a folk tale, and the Frankenstein question, which is about a novel's title character. Every movie mentioned is rated G or PG.

How many questions should a kids' Halloween quiz have?

Ten to fifteen for ages 5-7, and twenty to thirty for ages 8 and up. Children under seven lose focus after roughly five minutes, so one round of ten is usually the whole quiz. For older kids, two or three themed rounds of eight to ten questions with a short break between them holds attention for about half an hour.

What is the easiest way to score this at a party?

Use teams of three or four rather than individuals — it stops one child from losing publicly, and it halves the number of scores you track. Give one point per correct answer, no half points, and read the correct answer aloud immediately after each question rather than at the end of the round, since young children will not remember which question was which.
