The European flags quiz is the hardest flag challenge per square kilometer anywhere on Earth, because Europe invented most of the world's flag patterns and then reused them relentlessly. Forty flags are in play, and the traps come thick: the Netherlands and Luxembourg differ mainly in the shade of blue; Romania and Moldova share a tricolor with only a coat of arms between them; Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia all riff on the same white-blue-red with different crests; and Monaco-style red-over-white lookalikes lurk in Poland's flipped colors. Meanwhile the Nordic countries fly five variations of the same off-center cross, daring you to remember which cross is Finland's blue and which is Iceland's red-in-white-in-blue. Each round shows one flag and four country names; pick correctly and the country flashes green on the Europe map, anchoring the flag to a real place. Miss, and the right answer is revealed immediately so the pattern sticks. Free, browser-based, reshuffled every round — the fastest way to make Europe's tricolor soup finally make sense.

How to play

  1. The map highlights one country at a time in blue.
  2. Pick its capital city from the four options below the map — correct answers turn green, wrong ones reveal the right capital instantly.
  3. Answer all 40 to see your final score, then replay in a new shuffled order.

Europe Flags map quiz — FAQ

How many flags are in the European flags quiz?
40 — every sovereign European country except the four smallest microstates (Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino), whose flags rarely appear in tests. Vatican City's distinctive square yellow-and-white flag is included.
Which European flags are hardest to tell apart?
The Slavic white-blue-red family (Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia), the Netherlands vs Luxembourg pair, Romania vs Moldova, and the five Nordic cross flags cause the most wrong answers.
Does the quiz help me learn where the countries are too?
Yes — every answer highlights the country on an interactive map of Europe, green for correct and pink for missed, so flag recognition and map knowledge build together.
