The African flags quiz deals all 54 flags of Africa — the biggest flag challenge on this site and the deepest pool of near-identical designs anywhere in vexillology. The root of the trouble is the pan-African palette: after Ghana raised its green-yellow-red in 1957, half the continent followed. Mali flies the plain green-yellow-red tricolor, Guinea flies it reversed (red-yellow-green), and Senegal is Mali plus one green star — a three-flag family that sinks more players than anything else in the deck. Chad, meanwhile, flies a blue-yellow-red tricolor almost pixel-identical to Romania's — a genuine diplomatic sore point between the two countries. Liberia looks like the US flag with a single star, a deliberate tribute by its African-American founders, and Ethiopia, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, and Benin keep remixing the same three colors with stars and bands. Up north, Egypt, Sudan, and Libya swap pan-Arab red-white-black variations. Each round shows one flag with four country options; a correct pick lights the country green on the map of Africa, anchoring flag to location, and a miss reveals the answer immediately so the pattern sticks. Free, browser-based, no signup — reshuffled every round until the tricolor soup finally resolves.

Africa Flags map quiz — FAQ

How many flags are in the African flags quiz?
All 54 — one for every UN-recognized African country, from Algeria to Zimbabwe, including island nations like Cabo Verde, Comoros, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Sao Tome and Principe.
Which African flags are nearly identical?
Chad's blue-yellow-red is almost indistinguishable from Romania's flag, and the Mali–Guinea–Senegal family shares the same green-yellow-red: Mali plain, Guinea reversed, Senegal with a green star. Liberia's flag is a one-star copy of the US design.
Why do so many African flags use green, yellow, and red?
They are the pan-African colors, taken from Ethiopia's flag — the continent's oldest independent state. Ghana adopted them at independence in 1957 and dozens of new nations followed, which is why the family is so confusable.
